THE BEAR AND BALLERINA
In this recent exploration of work Foster engages abstract geometric form to capture various fantastical creatures, with immaculately constructed sculptures in artfully finished aluminium that are playful and instantly familiar. This body of works draws contrasts between shadow and light, human and animal, power and beauty.
The Bear and Ballerina is a unique piece, which was exhibited during Art Basel, Switzerland in 2019. In this work, Foster addresses fundamental characteristics and movement; such as the grasp of a paw, described through simple geometry. He exploits the nature of perception, which allows viewers to fill in the blanks, and to see the whole from suggested in fragments.
The Bear and Ballerina continues Foster’s ongoing enquiry into figurative forms, exploring various themes. Here Foster strikes a dialogue between two iconic forms, suggesting unity. As always he reinforces a focus on aesthetics, balance and symmetry.
