BENJAMIN | brick bay sculpture trail | 2026

Originally conceived as a self-portrait, Benjamin draws on the idealised human forms of classical sculpture while exploring the space between outward appearance and inner experience. The figure projects confidence and self-assurance, inviting reflection on the ways we present ourselves to the world.

A defining aspect of Foster’s practice is simplification. Forms are reduced to their essential qualities, with carefully considered details carrying the character of the subject. Through this economy of form, the work seeks to reveal an underlying presence rather than describe every detail.

Crafted from marine-grade aluminium and finished with automotive paint, Benjamin combines traditional making processes with contemporary technologies - reflecting Foster’s commitment to precision, material integrity, and craftsmanship.

Installed within Brick Bay’s Nikau setting, the sculpture creates a dialogue between the natural and the man-made, reinforcing themes that sit at the centre of the artist’s practice.
